Solo show and New Play Development
I have extensive experience developing and creating new work. Listening to the playwright and their hopes for the piece, I am able to guide our team towards a vision that serves the playwright, and the new work with great success. Whether fully produced musicals, experimental theater, or solo shows, many of the pieces I have helped have gone onto successful extended runs in New York, Edinburgh, and toured North America.
What follows are only a few examples of that collaboration.
Jennifer handed me a script with an overwhelming amount of characters and locations. How do you envision a fun and heartfelt retelling of the little prince from a girls perspective? Using shadow and Bunraku style puppetry, along with a trunk style set and costume feel, we lifted the piece into a living storybook. It was so successful that Jennifer added the authors note that the two main characters were to be puppets from now on.

After an extensive rehearsal and script development process we set up a workshop production for friends and family. This including bringing on designers who enhanced J.J's vision with the addition of an interactive projection use. After that we continued to develop the piece with an eye towards an Edinburgh Fringe run. Since then Husband has been touring successfully in America for the last year.

Working with Dipti for over four years we continually advanced and evolved a beautiful piece that combined written word, with traditional Indian song and dance. We worked to emphasize the overlooked voices of India and their ties to cultural mythology. After a successful NYC run, we toured most of North America bringing awareness and providing financial aid to those women and children still embroiled in India's failed patriarchal system.

Dimo engaged me when Comfort Women was about to embark on a full run at Playwrights Horizons. After doing extensive research on the tragedy of the Japanese occupation of Korea we worked together on fine tuning and highlighting the specific messaging he hoped to share with the broader community. It was remounted in Los Angeles after a successful NYC run.

Bernardo and I worked on this interactive clown game show from staged reading, through workshop production into a 6 month run at INTAR. Taking creativity from every department, this show demanded a controlled chaos. It's success was wrapped up in how it explored our every day cultural hypocrisies in the most disarming way.
